SMU Board of Trustee Members are making headlines again!

Board Chair Caren H. Prothro served as the Honorary Chair for the Centerstage 2011 gala. The June 4th event was put on by the Dallas Theater Center and was sponsored by D Magazine. Prothro is a longtime Dallas Theater Center supporter.

Former First Lady and SMU Board member Laura Bush spoke on World Oceans Day  to advocate for an expansion of the National Marine Sanctuary System. Bush’s latest cause is a push for improved conservation of the world’s oceans.

Laura Bush also made the news for her namesake hotel suite. The Laura Bush Suite at the historic Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island has been a huge hit with patrons calling for reservations before the hotel even opened in late May.

Board member Gerald J. Ford is also the owner of Diamond A Farms in Kentucky. His thoroughbred Pleasantly Perfect has been named the fourth richest American horse in terms of career earnings with $7.8 million to his name. This announcement comes as part of the Triple Crown coverage.

Kansas City Chiefs Owner and SMU Board Member Clark Hunt has been as reportedly in talksto help end the NFL lockout. A joint statement was released Wednesday to confirm that the owners and players are talking to reach a decision.

Hunt also made news for accompanying the Chiefs on a trip to Joplin to help with the tornado relief efforts.
