Your Quick Recap: The April 19 Student Senate Meeting

Well, it’s official: the 97th Student Senate has ended. Today was their last meeting. Next year’s Student Senate will be inaugurated next Tuesday at 3:30 in the Hughes-Trigg Commons.

We’ll have coverage on the Inauguration that afternoon. We probably won’t live-blog it, but look for video of the event posted ASAP.

But back to today’s meeting:

Here’s the live-blog.

Speaker Joe Gaasbeck had some fun with today’s agenda. See for yourselves:

Senate had to make a motion to only see the official stuff since the jokes were technically on the agenda.

Parliamentarian Joseph Esau was named Senator of the Year.

Student Senate voted to grant a charter to the Religious Studies Club and probationary charters to Golf Club and Big Brothers and Big Sisters on Campus.

Senate approved four funding requests:

The Voices of Inspiration Gospel Choir received $850. The Finance Committee had recommended funding them in full.

The Ballroom Dance Club received $760. The FC had recommended funding in full.

Women’s Lacrosse received $6,412. Their original request had been $6,850, but FC did not recommend funding the full amount.

The Student Film Association/Film and Media Arts received $0 for an SMU feature film shoot. They had originally requested $14,591, but FC did not recommend funding them.

Senate passed three bills involving MustangShare, the Pollock Gallery and Mustang EMS. I’ll have more details in tomorrow’s print product.
