Meet Your 2011-12 Meadows Senator Candidates

Today I’m posting some of the larger groups of candidates. Unfortuantely, not every candidate in these categories has returned a completed questionnaire or photo (they say three’s a charm, but apparently this doesn’t apply to emails).

I will be updating these posts as the questionnaires come in, so please keep checking back before you cast your votes next Wednesday and Thursday.

But now for our Meadows candidates: Alejandra Aguirre, Jaimmy Koroma, Cesar Rincon and Shana Ray. Info after the jump.

Student Body Vice Presidential Candidate Roza Essaw is also running for a Meadows seat, provided she doesn’t win SBVP. Find her info here.

Another candidate, Ariana Garza, dropped out because she couldn’t find the time between class, work and internships.

Awards/Honors You’ve Been Given at SMU: [Ed. note: left blank]

Why are you running for Meadows Senator?

I am running for Meadows Senator because I want us Meadows students to have some kind of saying in the Student Senate. Many of the Meadows students have significant ideas that they could introduce to the Student Senate, but they are too busy working for their major and being involved in other organizations. I believe that I am eligible to serve as the messenger of the Meadows students and introduce their ideas to the Student Senate.

What do you hope to accomplish as [position] if you’re elected?

As a Meadows Senator, I plan on being the messenger for the Meadows students. I will devote my time as Senator to the Meadows students and listen to their concerns and ideas about the SMU campus. I will introduce the ideas to the Student Senate and hope to change some of the problems for our improvement as a community in the SMU campus.

What’s your campaign slogan (if you have one)?

[Ed. note: left blank]

Why should SMU students vote for you?

The SMU students should vote for me because I will make sure to address their concerns. I will be on top of the issues introduced to me and I will dedicate myself to work on them and fix them. Also, I know for a fact that many of the Meadows students do not know who their Senators are. I will also make sure that the Meadows students know who I am and that I represent them.

What’s your favorite thing about SMU?

My favorite thing about SMU is the ability to fit in, no matter what the students’ passions or hobbies include. SMU has many organizations that target a wide variety of interests. Joining anyone of these great organizations leads to meeting new people and creating everlasting friendships, thus helping the student merge into the SMU campus.

What, if anything, needs to change at SMU?

The tuition prices need to decrease. This next year coming up the prices will increase, and many of the SMU students will have to obtain some type of loan in order to be able to pay these prices. If this is one of the concerns for any Meadows student, I will work with the other two Meadows Senators and strive to reduce the tuition prices.

Why are you running for Meadows Senator?

As Meadows Senator I would be able to bridge the gap between the whole SMU campus. As a meadows student I feel it is my responsibility to speak for those who do not have the courage to speak up or are constantly unheard.

What do you hope to accomplish as Meadows Senator if you’re elected?

I hope to continue to provide a voice to the silent. My biggest aspiration is to get legislation passed that will help promote SMU’s prestige and overall goal.

What’s your campaign slogan (if you have one)?

[Ed. note: Ray left this question blank.]

Why should SMU students vote for you?

I want change and it is my desire to help and encourage the SMU student body. Students should vote for me because I can be there voice.

What’s your favorite thing about SMU?

I love the availability of numerous resources. SMU is very welcoming and inviting.

What, if anything, needs to change at SMU?

I would like to see more unity and school spirit here at SMU. My hope is to get rid of the separation and have us work as one community.
