In Lighter Student Senate News…

Student Senate lost its first intramural softball game, 5-7.

Chief of Staff Alex Mace took some ribbing during the meeting in relation to that game. In Tuesday’s agenda it read: “Senate Softball Update: Lost 5-7, Gaasbeck Home Run, Mace Game-Losing Error.”

It’s important to note that meeting agendas are public records and are available in the Public Information Files online and in Senate’s office (and that they’re going to be available to future students).

Some joking among senators before the meeting included yells in the vein of “Motion to Amend the Agenda and Remove This Lie!” and assertions that the agenda should just read “Senate Softball Update: Lost 5-7.”

However, no motion was made (so the notation remains).

Many of the Senate Officers mentioned Mace’s performance during their reports (all of them sticking up for him, saying it wasn’t really a game-losing error).

I emailed Mace for further comment, and here’s what he jokingly sent me:

“While I take full responsibility for the relatively easy pop-fly that I failed to catch in Sunday’s game, it is unjust to place the entire weight of our loss upon my shoulders. We are a team and we should act as such – in victory and defeat. I will continue to love and cherish Speaker Gaasbeck despite the heinous libel he has leveled against both my character and athletic ability.”

Senate has two softball games coming up in the near future.

Update: Here’s the complete schedule, in photo form as the Intramurals website doesn’t have a direct link to it (if you copy + paste the URL, it’ll take you back to the homepage).

You should be able to click on the photo and view the full size.

The next game of Student Senate Softball will be on March 27th at 8:30 and 9:30 PM at the Intramural Fields. Maybe Chief-of-Staff Mace can redeem his low fielding percentage then…

Thanks, Joseph, for posting those times. I had been waiting to confirm them.
