SMU Trustees in the News

It’s time for another SMU Trustees in the News!

Michael M. Boone spoke on behalf of the Citizens Council on Tom Leppert’s announcement that he would not run for re-election. Boone was quoted in a Dallas Morning News article and again in the Dallas Observer saying, “I and others failed to convince Leppert to run for re-election. Now we have to turn the page.” The Citizens Council is influential in picking mayoral candidates in Dallas.

Former first lady and SMU Trustee Laura Bush was a featured guest at a Get Motivated Business Seminar in Florida this past week. She spoke on taking charge of your own finances and not taking for granted the things money can’t buy.

The Hoglund Foundation, which Trustee Kelly H. Compton is a part of, helped fund a study at the John Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center. Scientists at the center have been able to successfully map the genetic code for medullablastoma, the most common form of pediatric brain cancer. This “map” is the first of its kind.

Richard K. Templeton, Chief Executive of Texas Instruments and SMU Trustee, announced Monday that Texas Instruments (TI) was past its “short and shallow downturn.” TI posted its fourth-quarter results this week and the results surpassed earlier forecasts. Templeton said the company’s fall downturn was “mostly complete.”
