Senators Depart, Leave Vacant Seats Before Semester Really Gets Going

I’ve sent an email to Membership Chair Roza Essaw asking for more information on current Senate vacancies. I’ll post that information as soon as I can when she either a) emails me back or b) I see her at the Senate meeting this afternoon.

But we’ve already had two senators drop out of Senate before the third week of class: Dedman I Senator Derek Hubbard and Meadows Senator Armando Aguirre.

Aguirre emailed me saying a “class scheduling conflict” was the reason for the departure.

This is a common problem for Senate, re: filling positions (and on our end getting a Student Senate beat writer). Senators are required to have Tuesdays from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. open. While Senate meetings usually only take two hours or so, the possibility remains that it could go on longer. They reserve the forum until 7:30 p.m. because of this.

Hubbard is leaving Senate because he will be the new Tate Lecture Series Student Forum Moderator, according to an email he sent me.

Hubbard ran for Student Body President last year as you may recall, but lost to Jake Torres.
